DESCRIPTION:

The Lavender Tang (Acanthurus nigrofuscus), also called the Brown or Spot‑Cheeked Surgeonfish, is a graceful and hardy tang with subtle lavender tones, orange facial spots, and elegant fin outlines. A true algal specialist, this surgeonfish excels at keeping algae in check and adds peaceful activity to reef environments.

Care Highlights:

  • Tank Size: Minimum 125 gallons to support its active swimming and grazing nature.

  • Diet: Herbivorous feeds primarily on benthic algae. Offer multiple feedings of marine seaweed (e.g., nori, spirulina) weekly to support diet, coloration, and health

  • Temperament: Semi‑aggressive and territorial toward other tangs; generally peaceful toward non‑tang tankmates.

  • Habitat Needs: Provide live rock for grazing and hiding spots; strong water flow mimics natural reef currents.
