The Longnose Butterflyfish (Forcipiger longirostris) is a striking reef species known for its elongated snout and elegant swimming profile. With a vibrant yellow body, streamlined form, and specialized feeding habits, this butterflyfish is a standout in marine displays.

Every Longnose Butterflyfish from TSM Aquatics undergoes full quarantine and conditioning to ensure a healthy, display-ready specimen.

Care Essentials:

  • Tank Size: Minimum 125 gallons to accommodate active swimming and territory needs.

  • Temperament: Generally peaceful, though may defend its feeding zone against similar species.

  • Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a varied diet including mysis shrimp, fine chopped seafood, frozen planktonic mixes.

  • Reef Compatibility: Add with caution. May nip at coral polyps or sessile invertebrates if underfed.

  • Water Conditions: Maintain stable reef parameters — temperature 76–82 °F, salinity 1.024–1.026, pH 8.1–8.4.

  • Behavior & Habitat: Use its long snout to probe crevices for prey like small crustaceans and worms. Provide live rock with caves and overhangs to allow natural foraging.

The Longnose Butterflyfish combines beautiful aesthetics with specialized behavior. In a well established reef environment with proper feeding, it becomes a graceful and productive addition to your marine system.
