The Purple Firefish (Nemateleotris decora) is a graceful and vibrant marine species adored for its purple head, elongated dorsal fin, and elegant hovering behavior. Ideal for reef tanks and peaceful community systems, this firefish brings refined movement and vivid color to any aquarium environment.

Each Purple Firefish from TSM Aquatics is fully quarantined and acclimated to ensure a healthy, display-ready specimen.

Care Essentials:

  • Tank Size: Minimum 20 gallons, though 30+ gallons provides better stability.

  • Temperament: Peaceful and reef compatible. Best paired with nonaggressive tankmates.

  • Diet: Carnivorous. Feed multiple small meals daily of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, enriched frozen planktonic foods, and high quality marine pellets.

  • Reef Compatibility: Safe with corals and invertebrates. Does not nip or bother sessile animals.

  • Water Conditions: Maintain stable reef standards — temperature 73-80 °F, salinity 1.024-1.026, pH 8.1-8.4.

  • Behavior & Setup: Provide caves, overhangs, or rock crevices as hiding spots. Use a tight lid, as firefish are known jumpers when startled.
