DESCRIPTION:

The Purple Firefish (Nemateleotris decora)—also known as Decorated Firefish, Elegant Firefish, or Purple Dartfish—is a captivating and hardy marine fish renowned for its vibrant violet head and finely rimmed fins. Its slim, torpedo-shaped body and graceful hovering behavior make it a standout in nano reef tanks or peaceful community setups.

 

Tank Size Minimum 20 gal; up to 55 gal if keeping pairs 
Hiding Spots Prefers fine sand and rubble—it “dart-hides” into rock crevices when startled 
Feeding Zooplanktivore: feed multiple times daily on mysis, brine shrimp, copepods, or enriched frozen meaty mixes
Temperament Shy, peaceful; best with calm tankmates. Can be territorial to its own kind unless a bonded pair.
Behavior Prone to jumping, requires a tight-fitting lid.
Reef Safe Yes, does not nip corals or invertebrates
