DESCRIPTION:

The Red Firefish is a striking and peaceful goby known for its bright red tones and elegant form. Ideal for reef tanks, this species hovers above the substrate and darts into hiding when startled.

Care Essentials:

  • Tank Size: Minimum 20 gallons is acceptable; larger is better to allow natural swimming.

  • Behavior: Shy by nature. Provides active motion and acts as a dither fish encouraging other fish out of hiding.

  • Diet: Omnivorous. Feed multiple small meals per day of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, frozen planktonic foods, and enriched pellets.

  • Reef Compatibility: Reef safe, doesn’t bother corals or invertebrates.

  • Water Conditions: Maintain stable reef parameters temperature ~ 72-80 °F, salinity ~ 1.024-1.026, pH 8.1-8.4.

  • Habitat & Features: Provide hiding spots, overhangs or rock caves. Because they are jump-prone, use a secure lid or cover.

  • Personality Notes: May hide for a few days after introduction while acclimating, then emerge and hover in open water.

This Red Firefish brings vivid color and graceful motion to any reef aquarium. With proper care, it becomes a subtle focal point without demanding aggressive conditions.
